10 Farmers Markets to Visit this Season

Though fall is my favorite time of year (I'm a recovering pumpkin spice latte addict), one thing I love about spring—besides the mushrooms—is the reopening of our region’s farmers markets.

For a short time, I was the manager of the Rappahannock County Farmers Market in Sperryville, VA, where I oversaw its transition from Pen Druid Brewing Company to its current location at The Schoolhouse. That experience gave me a profound appreciation for the work that goes into organizing, promoting, and running a farmers market. And although the regular commute from Fauquier to Rappahannock ultimately didn’t work out for me, I was so grateful to be part of that community—one rooted in care, creativity, and really good produce.


These days, my regular market is the Archwood Green Barns in The Plains on Sunday mornings, but there are so many other wonderful local markets to explore across the Virginia Piedmont (and just beyond). Whether you're shopping for fresh greens, handmade soaps, or local honey, here are 10 regional markets to check out this season:

🥬 Leesburg Farmers Market - Website

  • Season: Year-round

  • Days: Saturdays, 9am - 12pm in the Winter Season (Nov. 12 to April 26), 8am to 12pm in the Summer Season (May 3 to Oct. 25)

  • Location: Virginia Village Shopping Center, 20 Catoctin Circle SE, Leesburg, VA

  • Highlights: One of Loudoun County’s most robust markets, offering a wide variety of produce, dairy, and specialty vendors.


🍓 Gilbert’s Corner Farmers Market - Website

  • Season: March – December

  • Days: Saturdays and Sundays, 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM

  • Location: Intersection of Rt. 15 and Rt. 50 in Aldie, VA

  • Highlights: Authentic French pastries, locally famous barbecue, kettle corn, ice cream, Maine lobster rolls, fresh produce and meat, and Christmas trees during the holidays. Starting in May, this is a go-to place for the locally-famous Wegmeyer Farms’ buckets of strawberries.


🌽 Haymarket Farmers Market - Website

  • Season: April 6 – November 16, 2025

  • Days: Sundays from 9am to 1pm (except 4/20, 7/6, 8/17, 10/19)

  • Location: Downtown Haymarket, 15025 Washington St, Haymarket, VA

  • Highlights: Family-friendly market with fresh foods, kids' activities, and live entertainment—not quite Piedmont, but worth the short drive.


🌼 Warrenton Farmers Market - Website

  • Season: April 19 – November 22, 2025

  • Days: Saturdays, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM

  • Location: Parking Lot A at Lee and Ashby Streets, Warrenton, VA

  • Highlights: Local produce, meats, baked goods, flowers, special event markets, and artisan pop-ups.

  • Season: April 13 – December 21, 2025

  • Days: Sundays, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

  • Location: 4559 Old Tavern Road, The Plains, VA

  • Highlights: Longstanding market with a loyal following, offering meats, produce, eggs, jams, and local crafts.

  • Season: April – October

  • Days: Second Fridays, 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM

  • Location: 8374 W Main Street, Marshall, VA

  • Highlights: Evening market with music, art, fresh produce, and a vibrant small-town feel.


🧺 Rappahannock County Farmers Market (Sperryville) - Website

  • Season: April 6 – November 22, 2025

  • Days: Saturdays, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

  • Location: The Schoolhouse, 12018 Lee Hwy, Sperryville, VA

  • Highlights: Local produce, meats, baked goods, and friendly community in the heart of the Blue Ridge.


🌻 Charlottesville Farmers Markets - Website

Charlottesville and Albemarle County are home to several farmers markets, offering fresh produce, baked goods, meats, coffee, flowers, crafts, and more. Some of these markets are seasonal, while others operate year-round. Visit their websites for the most current vendor lists, hours, and special events. Here are a few recommendations:


  • Season: April – Thanksgiving

  • Days: Saturdays, 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM

  • Location: 100 E. Water Street, Charlottesville, VA

  • Highlights: Charlotte’s oldest open-air market, with over 100 vendors. Everything from heirloom veggies and farm-fresh eggs to pastries, plants, and handmade goods.


  • Season: May – September

  • Days: Wednesdays, 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM in May through Sept. and 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM in Oct.

  • Location: 1400 Pen Park Road, Charlottesville, VA

  • Highlights: A smaller, midweek market perfect for picking up fresh groceries in a relaxed park setting.


  • Season: Year-round

  • Days: Saturdays, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM in April through Sept., 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM in Oct. through March

  • Location: 522 2nd St. SE, Charlottesville, VA

  • Highlights: A community-centered market with a mission to increase access to local food, regardless of income. 60+ vendors, live music, art, and a great mix of food trucks and local makers.
